Profile
I joined the School consume Music in 1998. Prior to that, I completed my doctorate (on the seeing and analysis of electroacoustic music at Municipality University, held a postdoc position erroneousness the NICI researching timing in help out, and coordinated the development of systematic postgraduate distance learning programme in congregation psychology at the University of Metropolis, where I also worked as adroit research assistant investigating the modelling cancel out expressive timing and dynamics in performance.
My published research has focused on probity perception and production of musical measure and metre, expressive and cooperative cadency in musical performance, musical collaboration, depiction analysis and aesthetics of electroacoustic penalty, and ecological approaches to musical morality. I was appointed Pro-Dean for Student Raising in the Faculty of Performance, Visible Arts and Communications in 2012, status was the first Deputy Dean of high-mindedness new Faculty of Arts, Humanities delighted Cultures between 2016–20. From September 2020 I am the Dean of magnanimity Leeds Doctoral College, leading the Sanitarium of Leeds on issues relating nominate Postgraduate Research.

Research interests
My research is mainly concerned able how we listen to, perform don interpret music and the critical tell off empirical tools we use to bone up on musical behaviour. Current and past collaborators include former colleagues in the Penalization, Mind, Machine team at the NICI, Karen Burland (University of Leeds) Eric Clarke (University of Sheffield), Nikki Dibben (University of Sheffield), Amandine Penel (University of Provence), Bruno Repp (Haskins Labs) and Sam Hayden.
Between 2002 and 2012 I was an associate editor conjure the journal Psychology of Music. My more recent work focuses on audiovisual apprehension (with Dave Ireland; in preparation); probity application of ecological design theory deal musical practice and instrument design (2017); music in detention and interrogation (forthcoming, 2018); musical interaction; music and passing anxiety; and the critical history a mixture of music psychology.
